Eagles on the ice
#1I was standing on our dock Sunday afternoon with a beer in one hand and my camera in the other. Looking at the ice receding and hopefully get a photo of a woodduck or two. Suddenly two eagles flew over me, spotted something just under the ice and landed. They were trying to figure out how to get whatever was underneath the ice. For a few moments it gave me an opportunity to take a couple of photos before they flew off.

#4Good shot, my friend. You ARE a lucky lad!

#13Ya, Kern Lake is not far from me. Although, I haven't gone that direction yet. Didn't Kern Lake get damaged by the floods a couple of years ago?driftless angler wrote:Very cool! Is the ice close to going out up there? Go check Kern Lake for me, will ya?
The ice left our lake 2 days ago, finally. Now we have our resident loons back and lots of ducks. I am trying to get some great woodduck photos but they are as elusive as the pileated woodpeckers.

#14West Kern Lake Rd, got washed out quite badly in the 200 year flood that we now have every 2 years. Luckily, unlike poor Pigeon Lake, Kern Lake has Hansen Creek for an outflow, which winds up in the White River.
I'm looking forward to seeing our loons back too. This year, I'm hoping your eagles don't snatch their baby!

#15The loons returned on our lake 2 days after the ice went out.
Some people supposedly spotted a moose on the loose yesterday. That would be a rare sight, but possible.

#16Great loon shot! Now if you can get a photo of a WI moose, that would be something!
