Little Rainbows all day. First fish on first rod.
#1It was a gorgeous day today. Wispy white clouds smeared on a pure blue sky. My friend and decided it was a great day to break in my first build. Built off the para 14 numbers.
After a cup of coffee & some early morning sun rays... the decision was made to go to a small mountain river that we frequented years ago that we knew had great little rainbow trout. The drive there is spectacular. Views of one of the islands best salmon fishing inlets, from about 1800 ft. a valley of trees as far as you can see.
Anyways... we got to the spot, and it was just as we had remembered at tis time of year. A gentle flow to it. Curving and bending throughout the rocky terrain. Small whitewater ruffles opening into pools holding dozens of hungry rainbow trout. We fished each pool slowly, with nothing but high floating flies.the action was tremendous. Non stop action for 3 hours. Landing the first fish on the first rod I ever made was a bonus feeling too.
I did not snap many pictures, as it was one of those days where you couldn’t keep them off the line. I hope you enjoy the few I did take.

#2Very nice. Nothing like fishing a rod you made yourself.

#8PlaneOldMike,
What a great day baptizing the rod you made. It's a beautiful location and your
pictures are stunning!
I only have one question. In a post titled "Brookies All Day.....", I don't see a picture
of an actual "Brook trout"?
Thanks- Ken

#9Very nice story and photos, and I don't mean to poke a hole in your balloon but maybe I'm missing something... you posted pictures of rainbow trout, not brookies?
Nice bamboo rod, great photography and congrats on your first fish on your self-made cane rod...

#11Most excellent Mike. Congrats on your build and breaking her in on some fun trout. Beautiful place and water and colorful fish... I'd hit it w/a 3wt and be in heaven!
Thank you. Now go back there...)

#12I wondered when I’d have to answer for that title. I don’t get much for brook trout on my island, so when I go into the mountain streams, I pretend that I’m fishing for Brook trout. I’m sorry for the falsification. I didn’t even think about it when I posted it. I’ll change the title.flyfishermann1955 wrote: ↑07/18/20 18:55PlaneOldMike,
