2020 wrap-up
#1For the last 10 years, my fly fishing and grouse hunting has severely waned -- my kids and their activities (sports, scouts, etc.) took up much of my time and for several years I only got out for a sulphur camp...two years ago I didn't even bother buying a fishing or hunting license....I watched my two fine Brittany Spaniels age in front of my eyes. Now into my second year as an empty-nester, it started out with a new bamboo rod and things started rolling...
2020 by almost every metric is going to be a year that stands out in the history books and we still have 3-1/2 months to go. But there were some bright spots in my life that would pop up -- several of those involved a memorable fly fishing season with great friends and bamboo rods. More or less in chronological order, the year played out like this starting in late March exploring some new DNR land by my house that you literally had to rappel down to the stream:
Then Covid happened along with stay-at-home orders, so I hunkered down until Memorial Day weekend when I started venturing out again and the hatches of early June started in earnest:
Then the dog days of summer and tricos.
Then there was the last hurrah this week:
And this was the view from my rear-view mirror as we pulled away from the bridge for home yesterday...our last gathering of 2020:
Thank you to a number of good friends -- many of them members of this forum -- for great company on the stream, fireside chats, and lunches at streamside picnic tables this summer. And thank you Paul Julius for the wonderful rod and for making fly fishing fun again.
