Every shrimp boat on the northern Gulf of Mexico had them on the trawl booms as recently as about 1970. Can't say anything about then since then. Can add that some had a hinged side that could be dropped down to facilitate passing an additional line through them. These were known as "snatch blocs".

A little late but you may look in the wooden sailboat community, especially in the UK. A recently saw a You Tube video from Tom Cunliffe (sp?) on servicing such wooden blocks.

We used lots of those wooden blocks in the rigging on purse seiners while fishing for salmon, both in Puget Sound and Alaska.

I worked on them in the '70's.
