Re: Self made reel
#25Just gorgeous! Have you put a line on either and landed a fish ?
That would be the pinnacle...

#27The first aluminum reel has already been put to work and I've landed three see trout with it. Very happy with the performance of the drag. It goes from "just enough" to "pretty strong". Both reels are louder than my old Hardy reels.Brian Shaffer wrote:Just gorgeous! Have you put a line on either and landed a fish ?

Re: Self made reel
#28The intended rod and reel combo.
It's a 8'0" #4 hollowbuilt Dickerson "8012"
I made it after reading a tread where someone said he had hexrodded an 8013 down to an 8012 based on Tom Smithwicks version of the 8013.
Couldn't be happier with it! Super leightweight and very crisp. It weighs a mere 83 grams (with NS reelseat)

#29Just wanted to say thankyou for all your kind words regarding my reels.
It's nice to know I did something right. Quite a few hours going in to a project like this. Especially since I do not have any metal working skills to talk about. I'm primarely a wood worker.
So, Thankyou all!

Secondly, just knowing that there are people hand crafting reels like this makes me feel better about the world.

#32Nicely done. I’ve been thinking of doing some more leatherwork myself. It may be time to start to work.

Re: Self made reel
#33What a stunner of a reel case. Very fitting for a reel of such caliber!

#34Mr. Gustavsson, I believe you have missed your calling in this life. "Remarkable" doesn't begin to cover it.

Re: Self made reel
#38JGus - the last photo with the rod in your left hand... could be a rod in hand logo - for lefties ~
Can you provide us more details to this check ? note the little blade spring holding the ball for positioning of the tension knob
I still do not follow the spring holding the ball... maybe that's pawl...
