Glut of Hardy Reels

Has anyone noticed the large amount of vintage Hardy reels on the auction site ? Where are they coming from ? Is everyone unloading them across the pond ??

I agree there are a lot for sale, but really not all that many nice ones in my opinion--a lot of tired stuff. I do follow a few that are fairly tasty, listed by dealers, but way over priced and they sit there for months and months, unsold, and the prices never come down. Actually, the question I have is where is the really good stuff from individuals--I don't see as much listed as years past, either on forums or on auction sites. Is everyone a Hardy hoarder?

I have a theory
I think the prices are down across the board
High end and very rare reels seem to not be affected as much.
I think with prices low ..people with nice Salmon reels don’t want to part with them for a loss so there hanging on to them.
I think the hardy reissues had an effect.
Taupo, 4,41/4 are reissue are readily available on discount and are lhw/RHW.
I think the vintage 31/4 31/2 33/4 are holding better value because they weren’t reissued and they are ver popular size for balancing two hand rods.
Just a lot of options diluting buying pool.
So many cool modern reproductions now as well.
Just some rambling thoughts.

One other thought: In the past, when I've sold high quality salmon Perfects, many of the buyers were in Canada. With the current exchange rate, I've been told many times that what used to be acceptable prices in USD, are simply not affordable today in Canadian dollars.

There will be many many more to come.

Two large collections are due to be auctioned due to the passing of the collectors.

In addition there are a couple of people who have decided to "get out"

I have items that no longer fit within my collection idea. That said every time something comes up I want its expensive.
