A correct 1928 4 1/4" Hardy Longstone, catalogued '..also makes a good fly reel.'

L R Hardy would land a fly caught 40 lb Alta salmon on the same model.

M. A. Shipley of Philadelphia . This rare Box. dating sometime after 1895 -1905. Malcolm worked for his father Augustus, A. B. Shipley & Son and in the mid 18 hundreds ran the company and in 1895 changed the name to M. A. Shipley. Malcolm never made reels but made by other makers, primarily New York makers.
In this box is a reel in excellent condition, Julius Vom Hofe 3 1/2 trout reel with nickel plated band and hard rubber plates, No 93, 2 1/2 x 1 inch

Hardy The Green Princess 1953-1956 only ! Three sizes 3", 31/4" and 31/2". This was the first fly reel from the House of Hardys that could be used both as RHW and LHW. The market did,nt like the color on the reel so it left the market very fast. 1957-1958 the Hardy Princess came in a grey / brown coloration but they left the market after two years only. The Hardy Princess Lightweight return to the market again 1961 but now in the coloration Grey / with silver-spool, but in the biggest size 31/2" only This time the Hardy Princess stayed on the market until the beginning of the years 2000 ( made in England ) and then some years more made in Korea South. Pictured here The first model in the smallest size a 3" Hardy Princess Lightweight in green with its original box. Enjoy ! // Steen

Web - wow .. what in the wide wide world of sports is a going on there ?
Kidding.. but wow...

This is exactly what I needed...
" There's no such thing as a fly fisherman wholly satisfied with his casting performance. " ~ Jim Green (1971)
" Just once I wish a trout would wink at me. " ~ Brian Shaffer

Step up to the plate with any lumber you want.

Webfly that is really an interesting drag design. The diaphragm spring ala automotive clutch plate looking spool must slide down over the cone to increase tension, contact surface, and drag?. COOL! I would love to see the insert unfolded...
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.

I’m quite impressed that you figured that one out! The maker is a big cone drag believer.
