Screwdriver size?

#1

Post by Erik Osterby »

I'm looking to convert a Pflueger 1495 to LHW. Any ideas as to what screwdiver size(s) are needed and where to get them?

Thanks

Just one size needed. Take the reel with you to an Ace or HD.

Consider using a hollow ground screwdriver to prevent damaging the screws:

Hi Guys, A small amount of masking tape wrapped on the end can keep the bit from slipping.

Thanks guys. Saw a thread on the fiberglass board where Ron/Bulldog recommended this.

I have the larger set of Gunsmithing Wheeler's. The two I most often use are the 235-314 #3 flat for the frame screws, and 152-854 #1 flat for the inside screws. It has been a solid purchase

Brownll has a Winchester set for under $15.

I use this set, although I believe I found it cheaper o n. eBay.

Yes I guess ideally it should be a turnscrew like gunmakers use, as opposed to a screwdriver that builders use

.
Look at the screw closely before selecting a screwdriver. Lots of vintage reels are have screws with tapered heads, which are easily wrecked with a straight sided blade. Best to have both handy.
