First of all, Thank you to all that replied to my post of a couple of days ago about Marquis changes in quality.
I realize now that I made some assumptions.
I thought that the Marquis was an old model, as in pre WW-II and was still being produced . I see I was wrong.
Am I wrong in believing the Marquis line was introduced some time in the early 1970's?
Where I'm going with all this is, I'd like to pick up another Hardy reel to go along with my LRH and Princess. Both of which I purchased new in 1974.
Here is some more data-
1. I can spend $200-250
2. I don't care for "modern Hardy's" as in- "no rim on the frame" type reels
3. It has to be in the 3" to 3-1/4" diameter range.
4. No need for a lot of backing capacity.
5. This reel will be used in conjunction with my 6'-8" Hardy Palakona
6. I'd like to put my new 406 brand DT5F line on it.
7. It has to look like a "real" fly reel to my 1970's centered brain.
8. I don't want a reel made by Hardy for another company.
I have access to a Marquis #6 that the current owner says- "It was made in the 1990's", it is within my price range.
It looks nice in the pictures (see #7 above)
So the reason for my earlier post is, would the quality of this "1990's" reel be at least equal to one from an earlier era?
Thank you
Richard

#3Yes. If you need an exposed rim, or just want one, the Marquis is a nice reel. If the exposed rim is not a big deal, I would suggest a Lightweight

#4If I were you - I would hold out for new in the box reels to avoid any problems
and with the Marquis it is not high dollars for a gem mint example.
Try to make sure you have a policy in place for a return if you are not satisfied.
A reputable Hardy dealer would be your best bet.

He carries plenty of Marquis reels all the time... from time to time...
This will get moved by the MODS to the Classic Reels Section - again.
Do post future Hardy reel questions there.

#5The new Marquis has a marvelous sound. Not like the old "Donald Duck" rasp of the earlier models.
