I've never seen an automatic reel that struck me as small. Seems like they were all made for rods 9' and up, but I couldn't quote specs to support that.
A better place to ask would be Reel Talk, the discussion board for the Old Reel Collectors Association. Good chance you'll find a collector or two who have more than a passing familiarity with them, and they're always generous with their info.

Good luck.

Those are of course not true autos, but lever assisted manuals (also known as semi-automatic reels). If this is an option, I would also look at the Swiss Peux Fulgor range...

Look at the older Martin autos. They made narrow spool versions for lighter lines. Also mostly in aluminum so weight is reduced. If you want old school the smallest Yawman Erbe autos are tiny diameter with wide spool.

Most functional old autos can be had for not a lot of money. I see them regularly at swap meets etc. Picking up a small aluminum one and then judicially milling/drilling/filing could render out a very lightweight inexpensive functional solution to your search.

Old post but I just purchased a CNC machined semi-auto 3wt reel on Amazon for $49 and free shipping. Beautiful reel that seems to be built like a watch. I have been fishing for bass and panfish with it. No trout in Florida!

Since the post has been started up again.

I have a couple CRAPPIEMATICS by Martin. I believe they were made for monofilament. Reels are slightly less than 3" wide, but still heavy at 9.95 ozs.

For a semiautomatic it's hard to beat the Aventik. Come with a spare spool and carrying case on Amazon for about $57 or the reel alone for $43. It only weighs 4.5 ozs.

Don't love the looks of line guide sticking out the bottom of the OCR's. Of course I might feel different if I ever used it.

Also, would really have to be great for $895.00. Of course, maybe it is.

The OP did not state a price.

Didn't realize it was wrong to say how expensive an item is.

He did mention a super short rod, so weight may be important. The OCR is 7.9 ounces(without line I'm guessing).

Of course the post is over two years old, so he may have already made his decision.

It’s not. If the OP had mentioned a price range I may not have posted this.

I'm sure many folks can afford the OCR reel. Out of my league, but that doesn't mean much.

It's getting the highest marks on the Glass Forum from bill de Brooklyn. He has actually written the book on these Semiautomatic Reels. Thoughts can be seen in the Classic Fly Reel section of the Fiberglass Flyrodders Forum.
