Reel spool identity help.

#1

Post by DatsunDoc »

Hi Everyone,
Some time ago I bought a batch of spare reel spools. Several matched Hardy Marquis reels I own and these were also included and don't fit my reels. I thought they might be for Hardy lightweights. The small spools are 2.5" in diameter and the two different larger spools are 2 7/8" in diameter. I would like some help with identifying what they fit so I can trade or sell them to someone who can use them. Thanks for any help.

Mike

Those images are pretty small, and won't zoom in when they are viewed so it's hard to see any detail.

Thanks for the head's up. I increased the size of the images.

The Hardy "Featherweight" has a spool diameter of 2.54 inches and the "Lightweight" is 2.82 inches.

Both spools have the same width, about 0.8 inches.

I don't recognise the spool which is perforated back and front.

The smaller reel is a "Featherweight" and the larger reel is a "LRH Lightweight".

Thank you Godfroy. I measured the spools this morning.

The small spools look close to your measurements for the featherweight.

This one is close to the lightweight.

This one is for a different reel.

Thanks Mike,

Those top two certainly look like Featherweight and Lightweight spools. The only way to be absolutely certain is to try them on the correct reel.

For decades I bought mainly Hardy Marquis reels because I liked the exposed rim on the spool. Recently I have acquired a few old Flyweights, Featherweights and Lightweights, realising that I don't really need rim control in small streams.

Best wishes.

Paul.

After doing some more digging I think the three spools may be for the Heddon reels (310,320) that are Hardy clones. I still have no idea on the fully vented spool.

I thought that one of the spools looked green! The secret to identifying the spool ported on both sides is the riveted handle and the porting on the back side. I'm sorry, but I can't help beyond that.
