The owner of this reel wanted it cleaned up and to that end commissioned me to take care of it. While it is not the filthiest reel I've ever cleaned, it was darn close.

It was a lot of work ...but such a magnificent reel is well worth the effort. If you know of anyone that has a top-quality reel in need of a good bath and they are afraid to try it themselves, send them my way.

Fantastic job, Dean. I didn't know you did this kind of work-or is that play. Gary.

The reel is 3.75" in diameter (not including the pillars) and has a spool width of 1.75"

Incredible job of restoring a beautiful reel. Do you know what material the side plates are made of?

Thank you. The side plates are hard rubber.

i seen and was watching that reel , it sure was in bad dirty condition , it really surprised me what it fetched for money in that condition , the owner must be pretty happy now

Thanks guys !

I agree. When the fellow approached me about buying it I was cautious as that much filth can hide issues. Thankfully, other than a few nicks and a couple of screws that need dressing, the reel is issue free. As for the price ...in the past three years we've seen these go for as much as close to $30K. This one, I think, was the least expensive one to sell in a very long time.

Very nice job, Dean.
It is nice to hear the reel was internally sound.

Isn't it hugely satisfying when it starts to look like it should? (and knowing when to stop)
Lovely reel, great work.

Thank you. The side plates are hard rubber.

Dean.
It's amazing that hard rubber would hold up so well for that long. It seems like it would have oxidized badly.
