Here is a largely loaded question, but would be interested in the feedback:  What fly reel, which is no longer in production, would you wish to see reincarnated and why?

Marbleized bakelite, like the Philbrook and Paine or even the Cozzone - not so much the mechanics of either reel, but the looks.

The J. W. Young Revolution because it is as stunningly gorgeous as the homecoming queen who would have gone out with me if I had asked her.

Spey,

What was the Marbelized material on the Philbrook, plastic?  So far seems there is a consensus on the Philbrook Model.

Recently saw one of these for sale at a show.  Price was (rumor had it...I didn't ask) $11,000.

There were two for sale at the FATC show in Daytona last week. That price sounds about right.

Actually I'm not sure that it is ebonite or hard rubber I was told the curator of the fly fishing museum thinks it is some kind of early plastic but not bakelite. But any way this material is long gone don't waist your time there where others be for who where searching for years with no success for this material. Some come up with excuses like this.

Gespliesste -

That looks very much like my photo of my Godfrey reel.  If you want to make less than flattering remarks about a reel...use your own.

I agree with afgantrout.  The "excuse" post is about as declasse' as anything I've seen on this forum.

It is not declasse it is my personal opinion when I see this Godfrey reel and the original Marbleized  Philbrook from reelsmith side by side. And this is not for the reel it self it is for the side plates!

It is hard rubber ...the same hard rubber as the all black version, just with orange in the mix (literally).

Dean,
if you have the chance you should try to get in contact with Jim Hardman. If I remember right he is the one who say it is not hard rubber it is "Mud"  http://asoac.org/bulletins/96h_ardman_rubber.pdf  Jim owns or owned a marbleized  Leonard.
