Value of Bronson Multi Royal Fly Reel Model 380

#1

Post by buffaloman »

I am curious about multiple geared reels and wonder what the value of a Bronson might be. I have bid on several other multi reels on the auction board but never been sucessful. What are general or specific values? Speedex, Bronson, etc.

thanks

The Speedex seems to be sturdier and much better made than the Bronson. I'd estimate a Speedex 2800 in excellent condition would be worth $60 - $75, while the Bronson might go for $30 or less.

I don't have any photos of mine, but if you use Google images and search for Shakespeare Speedex you should find several. (It also came in a wide version - the 2802 - but it seems to be hard to find.)

Orvis also sold the Speedex as their Magnalite Multiplier, although they later sold a BFR version by the same name.

Sorry - British Fly Reels, Ltd. BFR was owned by Orvis and was sold to a Chinese enterprise 8 or 9 years ago.

Here are some pretty average shots of my Shakespeare Speedex 2802 3 1/2" Extra Wide.

If you would like better or photos showing the reel better let me know.

my favorite multiplier is the Young 1500 series.
Here is a 1505.

Also, the Martin MG-10 and MM-11 are really nice.

There were some design issues with stiffness and wear on the Multi Royal.

I'm not quite understanding the original question. If you have bid on a number of different multiplier reels on ebay, and missed, why are you asking what the values are? One good measure of the value is what the reel finally sold for on ebay. You can click on the item again after it is sold and see what it sold for. You can also look under "Completed Items" and see if items sold and if they did, what they sold for. Like it or not, ebay has established values and readjusted what we once thought values were. Sometimes you will see values on forum classifieds be a little bit less because people don't have to pay ebay fees. Some even ask for 3% reimbursement for PayPal fees. But on the whole, values outside of ebay should be a little bit more because some sellers are looking for a profit, but more importantly for the buyer, they are worth more because you get some assurances that the item is intact with a fairly good assessment of condition while you sometimes roll the dice on ebay. And of course condition can affect the value tremendously. It's one of the reasons I would much rather pay more but buy from a forum member because my chances of a getting a good condition assessment is much higher than buying from someone on ebay trying to dump an item for which they have no idea of what it is, let alone condition.
