My 1940s 3.3/4" Spitfire reel by Jimmy Smith. So tempted to put a line one and fish it.

Just picked up a nice little 3.1/8th (no size marked) c1906 reel in remarkably good condition.

No sure is the 'P30' referred to the maker but it's not one I know.

Wanted to keep this thread going since the last post was in March. I don't know where you can go to see so many Uniquas.

A 2 7/8, 3 1/8 and a 3 3/8.

Always loved these spartan reels. Only one to show, a little 2 7/8", post war transitional reel. Really enjoy this reel!

Nice reel Paul. I like them too.

Simple, clean, non-complicated, can't beat that!

Beautiful leading on that Uniqua Paul. Looks great on that Leonard? Is that a 38, and the Uniqua is a 3 1/8??? Thanks for posting those photos Paul. Anyone know how the Uniqua got its name????? Thanks, Jed

Really nice reel Short Tip. Almost looks new.
Here is another one I recently picked up. There is definitely a "thing" about them how natural they look on a fly rod. I am always amazed you can still find them looking this good. I had Ron convert it for me.

Thanks Jed, it's a pre-fire model 38H Baby Catskill. As far as the reel size, ................

hey Short Tip - who is J.R.J ?

Them there J's look a little goofy... like a modified U. I know it is just me.
and I ain't saying they are suspicious or anything like that... they just look a little funny

Hardys Js seems to look so at least some of them, here you have the inside of a 35/8" Hardy Uniqua made by JRJs uncle Joe Johnson one of Hardys reel-maker gigants ( 1918-1967 )

I like the wide spool salmon Uniquas and have a few with perforated spool, tension regulator and horseshoe latch. They look very much like a St. George, but without line guide. Pretty scarce, but I'm still looking for 3 1/2" and 4 1/4" models of the same style. Sorry, no photos.

Now you got me to think a little, When I got this Hardy Uniqua reel 35/8, its from the 1930th. I thought JJ - thats Joe Johnson, no reason to use an extra letter when you are alone with these initials. Then JRJ came along and Joe Johnson started to use JAJ, but its may be not so, the JAJ is quite decorative. The litterature tells us that JAJ was the initials for Joe Johnson, I picture you the inside a Hardy Silex Major 41/2" from 1925-1927 made by Joe Johnson stamped JAJ, so if he always stamps his reels this way we need to find out who's JJ ? // Steen

Thanks for that sovereign! Also seen as JAJ?
