Pflueger Medalist 1595
#1About all I know about this reel is it was produced in 1958.
I'd appreciate any information that could be provided.
Thanks for the assistance.

Re: Pflueger Medalist 1595
#2As you know, it's an Akron made LHW version of the 1495, a bit scarce. A very nice example recently sold at popular auction and brought a handsome closing bid. If you do a search of Completed Listings under Pflueger Medalist on the auction site you can see it. It's a very durable reel as Medalists are, and is wonderful for a 6 to 8 wt line, weighs in the high 6 ounces if I remember correctly. I find these reels balance 8 to 81/2 foot cane rods nicely.
If it's yours, well done on obtaining it and enjoy the new acquisition!
Best

#3I am pretty sure the only differance between your reel & a 1495 is that the 1595 is a left hand winder . Other than that I think they are the same solid classic American Made reel. Six rivets with the older plastic cap & good paint is a nice find. Just a word of caution. The dressing on the old lines sometimes softens the paint on Pfluegers

#5Great link Joe. This was the site I initially used to research the date this reel was manufactured. It appears the 1595 has a short run (introduced in 1958 and retired in 1959) due to the reversible wind plates that where introduces for the 1400s.Joe Arguello wrote:Guys,

#6Nice link. I noticed that the "Made in Akron O USA" stamp began in 1959. I can't quite tell from your picture, but it looks like it is on your reel. Was yours actually made in 59 as opposed to 58, or did I miss something.

#7This reel has the Akron O stamp. When the site stated the 1595s were retired in 1959 I took it to mean they were retired at the beginning of that year.SpringCreek wrote:Nice link. #16If looking for one to collect and willing to pay the extra cost over a RHW 1400 series reel, great. However if for fishing only, it's a simple few minutes task to convert a 1400 series reel to LHW.

Re: Pflueger Medalist 1595
#17Neither can I. When I picked up fly fishing it seems any reel I looked at in 1971 was RHW so that is how I learned. I cast right handed, and when it's time to reel my left hand takes over and my right hand cranks the reel. I have really tried to change, but I cannot!
Re: Pflueger Medalist 1595
#18Apparently a later 1595 is not a LHW. I have a 1595 1/2 RC, it's a much nicer reel because of the rim control. I still like my 1494.
