Bergman again.

A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Gorgeous fly! I've always enjoyed reading Ray's stories and have had a chance to fish a number of places he described in his book "Trout."

Keep them coming, I love these classics.
Silver doctor or one of its variations, works everywhere I've tried it.

Yep. I've done reduced versions, trout sized. Definitely something about them that works.
I'm thinking the blue hackle.
OP, nicely done.

Funny how we decide what works. I've attributed the success to the silver body and bits of red.

Classic! I'm inspired!
...as for us we pin our faith and fealty to the silk-wound PENTAGONAL rod cunningly yet simply devised of its FIVE subtle, individual triangular strips of cane throughout...

Is this fly a variation of the Silver Doctor or something else altogether?

The colors on top are almost reversed, no red head, no red butt, and a different color tail. This fly came out of a pre-teen Wheatley box and although the fly has an eye, it has a silk gut connector. Just wondering if it has a name and sorry to the OP for highjacking of your thread.

I have over 75 different recipes for silver doctors...dry, wet, streamer, bucktail, Steele, salmon, lake, bass, and even a nymph...all are different

yours is a popular wet version I believe was in Leonards book Flies
