Adams Irresistible

A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Very nice Norm.
I'm assuming you do the tail and shape the body before adding the wings?
Adding the wings and hackle, butts towards the eye?

I'm asking because I can't picture me trying to shape the body with the wings and hackle tied on, even if they weren't in position.
I can see doing it like the way AK shows doing dries in his books (tail, body, then wings then hackle).

If I were a trout, I'd be throwing myself all over that. Very tasty.

Thanks for sharing,

It does look like a mouthful, doesn't it?

This is where Norm comes back and tells us it's on a size 28 hook or something.

Same here. And tying them on a leader? Heck no.
I applaud people that do stuff like tying size 32 royal wulffs just because they can, but I stick to what I fish and I tap out at about 18s.
