#21A pond called the Atlantic may separate us, Pat, but that doesn't stop me from saying, "+1, +2, and +3!"

#22I'm still using the last of my Gartside Carrottops. They are deadly. I had better learn how to tie them.
And a local tier (Flagg's Tackle in Orange, Ma) makes an extended deerhair blue damsel fly that's parachute style which has worked very well for me on the Millers R.

#23Have a whole half a box with parachute Adam's, so I guess that's my fave. I do tie the body in different shades, some olive and some cream, but in general its an Adams with variations.

Re: What is your favorite Parachute fly pattern?
#26Agree with Dave here, I like a generic #16 GRHE parachute style tied on a curved hook like the TMC 2302, tied with a trailing shuck, and spiky. some lighter in color, some darker, some in two tones (abdomen v thorax color).

#29Original Klinkhammer as tied by Hans Van Klinken is my favorite fly, both to tie and fish.
Does anyone have the recipe and/or pictures for the Gartside Carrottops as reidrods in post #22 suggested?
Thanks,
.........Barney

#30A quill body, CDL tail, calf hair post. Color and size to match what's coming off.
Re: What is your favorite Parachute fly?
#32My favorite style is a hatch matcher using a post of Antron yarn usually a light, medium or dark gray, either a silk dubbing or a color matched blend of Antron and fur, and appropriate hackle. The Antron post really helps visibility, particularly with small flies and poor light conditions.

Re: What is your favorite Parachute fly?
#35Yes, the ones I bought to begin with were sized to a different scale than I was used to so, I just bought smaller hooks. I used up the big ones I had in my intro to fly tying at Becoming A Outdoor Woman In Alaska classes at the Lost Lake Scout Camp. After the ladies tied some we took them down to the dock and caught stocker rainbows on them.
I now use Daiichi's 1160 Klinkhamer hooks as does Hans Van Klinkhamer himself. I believe they may be a made of bit lighter wire also.

#36Mr. Pastor, if we ever met onstream and swapped a couple of flies you'd take a close look at a couple I gave you and think "Hmm, yeah, I could fish these...!"flyfishingpastor wrote: ↑08/17/20 15:03Easily a Para-Adam for me. BUT, I also like a Para-Pheasant Tail or Hare's Ear.

#38I read some REALLY good replies to this question...favorite parachute fly. I'm quite late to this string. When I saw Fly Fishing Pastor, I had to weigh in. I may have missed the post, but a Roberts Yellow Drake has been my favorite in a variety of sizes.

#39I really enjoy using a parachute caddis with a white CDC wing post, as well as a midge with a white CDC wing post. my main use of parachutes is definitely the down-wing flies. I do use them for spinners. I rarely use them for upwing mayflies. I do use them for spinners, and Harrop's trusty rusty paraspinner is a great one!

#40I too like the klinkhamer style, but my favorite "every day fly" is the good old "Red Tag", some CDC feathers might be useful in anyway...
So my favorite parachute fly is the "CDC - Klinkhamer - Red Tag"
CDC feathers downstairs and a standard hackle above - it will always swim and attrakte the trouts with wobbeling CDC and its red Tag under the surfacefilm...
This one is a size 14 on a "Daiichi Klinkhamer" Hook.
