Re: Pearsalls color chart!
#3Gossamer is listed as fine silk and Naples is listed as extra fine. I thought it was the other way around with gossamer being finer than naples?

#4In this case the term "extra" means more. I believe this chart to be very old! But will probably really never know.

#5We'll figure it out in due course.
Your Chart is definitely early--FT3 at 2 shillings 6 pence. FT6 came out a little before decimilization in 1971, when it was listed as costing 5/. This would be roughly 25 pence, which is the price it was in Veniard's catalogue in 1972:
FT8, which cost 70p, is likely from the late 1970s. Our best bet is to check early Veniards and Allcock and Hardy catalogues for FT2/3/4/5 to help date it--as the catalogues were themselves dated.

#7I have been constructing an archive of chart data; I don't have FT3, but I do have others. I'm just starting to work on the dating, which is a fun project, but will take a little while. If anyone has an FT4, can you please post it here?
Also, Kenwey is correct in noting the Gossamer and Naples are mislabeled on the FT3.
