Emerging Olive Caddis

A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Emerging Olive Caddis

#1

Post by flyfishermann1955 »

After watching Davie McPhail tie an Olive Snatcher, I thought, with a different wing and some partridge,
that could make a good emerging caddis. Even though the Sowbug Fly Tying event has been cancelled
again this year, I hope to make it over to the White River in Arkansas next month and try this fly. I've had success
with caddis there before in late March and I think they continue to May.

If I were a trout, I'd eat it (given a proper drift, of course)!

I love Davy's ties. But I can't understand a damned word he's saying. I wish his vids included subtitles.

Davie’s subtitles would reveal the he’s just saying “peas and carrots, carrots and peas” over and over again😎

(I love his ties and vids too.)

It reminds me of Charles Brooks' caddis in Nymph Fishing for Larger Trout.
