noticing SPAM POST

Use this forum for Q&A of a technical nature, i.e., PC, cache, screen related problems, picture resizing, avatars and the like. We will also post facts here for you and instructions of a how-to nature which should make things more fun for you by eliminating some of the frustration with posting photos, etc. Thanks.

noticing SPAM POST

Lots of spam posts showing up lately. They seem to be scattered in different subjects throughout the board index, and I do not open them.

Yes, several. There's currently one in the Book Forum. Also, one just popped up on Banjo's site.

And they get taken care of as soon as a moderator sees it. Just as a gentle reminder to the post I put in the Announcements forum, please do not post a reply to an obvious spam post. It just creates more work for the mods to get rid of the spam post.

I used to report them, but they were getting so frequent that I kinda gave up, and decided to just ignore them.

Now, though, with the increase in posts promoting porn, the forum was flagged, and then blocked, by the automatic filtering algorithms used by my ISP, the Vatican.

Fortunately, being an I.T. Administrator within the organization, I was able to unblock the CFRF, but it's sad-funny that a forum used by mainly very upstanding people to talk about bamboo fly rods and such was deemed "undesirable".

Thanks for any improvement that can be made to remove such unwanted elements,
Kenneth

I try to report any and all. I usually open "unread posts" and today there were three spam (in Spanish, this time) posts just below this thread!

We try to catch them as quickly as we can, but unfortunately we don't quite have 24 hour coverage of the forum. Our admin from across the pond, ken_m_44 gets the early ones for us we get the rest of them throughout the day when we log in to the forum.

They are a pain, and they adjust rather quickly to the software designers fixes.

I had just made my post above and went further down that page and found four or five additional porn spam postings. Reported those, too!

Perhaps the software people could concentrate on porn, new sport shoes, and fake document postings in order to help get rid of this stuff. Not easy, I know.

A big thank you to the moderators for their largely unheralded work!
That said, I did take advantage of a screaming deal on knock-off limited edition Air Jordans. I have been promised a hasty arrival from Kazakhstan! :D

Yeah, the spammers seem to go in waves. We'll have a period of relative quiet with few spam posts, then they hit us hard. The developers come up with ways to slow them down, but the spammers always seem to find a way around the roadblocks.

Thanks to those who are reporting the posts. Much appreciated.

It's probably more effective to click into the post itself and hit the report link at the bottom center of the post. It will alert all of the mods quicker than they would read new posts on this thread. That's my assumption anyway.

Yup. That's the best and quickest way to get a mod's attention. It flags the post for us in case the spam post is a reply post to a real post too and helps us get to them.

I got the same kind of suspicious private message with the subject title in Cyrillic this morning. I noted that the sender is no longer a member; must have been kicked off by the admins here.

Oh well, it's a jungle here in boo land, in many ways.

Yea me too. It was an easy decision to not click the link, cuz HR tends to not like webcam girls.

I'm retired and look at the Forum quite a few times per day and have deleted quite a few spams. PM or email me if you see any in the future. Thanks.

Looks like there is an automatic acceptance of anyone who signs up to the forum, maybe the administration should screen potential newcomers to prevent the large amounts of spam.
