How do I put my already hosted picures into a listing?

Use this forum for Q&A of a technical nature, i.e., PC, cache, screen related problems, picture resizing, avatars and the like. We will also post facts here for you and instructions of a how-to nature which should make things more fun for you by eliminating some of the frustration with posting photos, etc. Thanks.

How do I put my already hosted picures into a listing?

Post by caddis321 »

Greetings,

I'm an old technology dinosaur who taught myself (apparently not very much) about computers, so I usually need help at every turn. I have a rod, accompanied by pictures that I would like to list. I already have these pictures hosted on my web-site program, they already have their own URL's. So actually it is just a matter of how to get the picture URL's into my listing. I wonder if someone would be so kind as to enlighten me as to the necessary procedure? In plain words, what do I have to do? Am I going to have trouble with the fact that the URL's are naturally in HTML?

Thank you,

Bob

Bob,

I don't know if I can help, but I'll try. I use photobucket for hosting my photo's so I assume you are at that stage with your photo's you use at your website.

When you are creating your posting you can click on the 'image' button and a box will pop up for you to input the url for the photo. I open two browsers simultaneously and cut and past the url. When I do it from photobucket, "IMG" or something like that appears preceding and following the actual url address. I found that I need to delete these from the url line in order for it to work.

Hope that helps.

Hi Chris,

Firstly, let me thank you for your reply. Now let's see if I know where I'm going from here. You mentioned "photobucket", just so I am sure what you are referring to, is that some kind of hosting service? Again if I understand what you're telling me, as I am entering my listing, I will see a box that says "image", when I hit that box, a place comes up for me to insert the picture URL. I have several pictures, can I enter more than one? One more question, if you will be so kind; Can I make a practice run at this by including a picture in one of the messages in reply to this thread to see if all is correct. I think I read in here that someone did that.

Thanks again,

Bob

Chris,

I took a shot at this, I had to delete a bunch of stuff like you said, we'll see what happens.

Trying again with a photo

If this doesn't work, I'll try again next week, I'll be away from the computer for the weekend. Obviously, I still need assistance.

Thanks much,

Bob

Hi Bob,

Yes, photobucket is a photo hosting site.

When posting a photo on this site, I click the image button then copy and paste the address inside the box. I then delete the bracketed "IMG" in front of and at the end of the address.

I enter only one photo at a time, click OK, then hit the image button again if I want to add a new photo. Each entry shows in your text area and I leave a blank line or two between each entry, or sometimes I add text describing the photo etc.

I'm posting a photo below of my new toy in order to remind myself how I do this.

I hope this helps. My knowledge on all of this is limited.

Blitzen, Thanks for explaining that Photobucket site, because I just tried using it, expecting the incomprehensible procedures I've found at similar sites, but to my complete & utter amazement, I succeeded (2nd try) in making it WORK! I still had to copy down the URL manually (i.e., pen & paper), but that I don't mind at all. (I will mind exposure to increased spam attacks, which I always assume goes along with getting something "for free.")
