Posting pictures from Flickr
#1I read 3 forums almost daily, and I see many postings that would be improved by having pictures, but the authors cannot figure out Photobucket. When I started using the forums several years ago, my pictures were already on Flickr, so I have always posted from there. Perhaps others would like to do this.
Here is how, step by step:
1. Log in to the forums and start a new topic. Start typing.
2. When you are ready to insert a picture, open a new tab on your browser, go to Flickr, and open your Photostream. Click on the picture you want.
3. Your picture comes up at larger size and after a few seconds, 4 symbols appear in the lower right corner of the screen. The 3rd symbol is a curved arrow meaning "share". Click on it.
4. The share box pops up. Select "BBCode" instead of "HTML" or "Link". Also select a pixel resolution.
5. Some code is highlighted starting with a bracket and url=... Hit the key pair CTRL-C to copy this to your scratchpad.
6. Now go back to the forum tab and hit CTRL-V to paste in the code.
So here is an example of what you will get:
IMG_4523 by d_triezenberg, on Flickr
There is more code here than you really wanted. So delete everything following the first occurrence of /url bracket.
Now it appears this way:
Note, December 2019: Flickr's rules have changed, and I can no longer recommend their service. See the reply that I have made further down on this topic.
If the two photos above disappear, it is because Flickr has ceased to operate.

Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#2I've used Flickr here on the Forum for years.
There are other ways to use it as well, including being able to pick the preferred size of the photo you want to share as well as a "copy shortcut" that makes it even easier.

Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#3Richard still a small learning curve until you've done it 3 or 4 times but it becomes second nature after that plus you get loads of free storage with Flickr that you don't get with other repositories.

#4I followed the instructions above slavishly, but when I paste the link into the Forum page, all I get is the url. Not the photo itself. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks,
Tom

#8Sprat,
This thread is over a year old and I think Flickr has changed its layout since then.
I use Flickr at times and here us what I do:
Go to my Flickr page and click the photo I want to use.
Then I click on the "Share photo" arrow to the right of the pic.
That will open up a white window with a couple options.
Choose "BBCode".
Choose the picture size from the little drop down menu.
The right-click and copy the highlighted link.
Paste that link in the post that you are creating on this forum.
Hope this helps.
Brian

Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#9Thanks Brian but when I click share, I just get a white block with facebook, twitter etc. options.
Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#10Sprat,
Is there an option for "BBCode" when the white block pops up?
That's the one you want...

#12I know I'm late to the party, but I hate Photobucket and was hoping for a simpler option to posting on the Forum. Sadly, no luck...no BBCode option.

#16imgur.com is far simpler to use. You get BBCode, plus you get to decide the photo size...

#17Can you post pictures from Google Photos or from Apple pics?
Why can’t they be attached directly to a post?

Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#19The reason photos can’t be directly attached from your PC, MAC, iPad/iPhone etc. is photos can take up space on a server and since the server is privately owned there’s a cost involved monthly moving photos by uploading/downloading and viewing these may not be a concern to the users but since there is no cost to be a member here it wouldn’t take very long before that would no longer be the case.HexaMaineiac wrote:Can you post pictures from Google Photos or from Apple pics?

Re: Posting pictures from Flickr
#20Help!!! I have posted several photos via Flickr in the past, at some point this past spring I attempted to add a photo without success, yesterday was the first day since that failed attempt that I again tried unsuccessfully, ok, I'm on flickr with my photo stream, I have finished typing on the forum, go back to flickr, click onto the photo, hit curved arrow forward, white screen comes with 4 different options, BBcode is already highlighted but I click on it anyway and I've also tried without clicking onto it, then I hit cntrl C , the screen doesn't even blink, I'm pretty sure when it was working properly something happened when hitting cntrl C, I go back to the forum, hit cntrl V, again either no response or BBcode shows up, this is frustrating, as far as I know theres no human being at flickr you could talk too, I'm wondering if it's a matter of converting the flickr free to flickr plus for 50 bucks a year, has anyone else had the same situation as I've described, do you have to do an update or something, seeking technical assistance, Thank you in advance, Jerzy
