New Japanese Rodmaker book
#1Hello all!!!
There is a new book on Japanese rodmakers coming out this month. It includes makers of bamboo, fiberglass etc. Printed in English. Appears to be a nice addition to the library. Here is the web address:

#2Paul,
I recognize all of these top-tier makers--not sure how a Brandin snuck in, but...--this should be an excellent source of info for those looking to explore Japanese rod making. The pics look quite good, too. Great to see an English version.
Thanks for pointing this one out.

#5Looking closer, you have AWOL (I believe a reference to leaving work to fish) to the right of the Brandin. Looks like a Morgan and a Sweetgrass to the left of the Brandin, followed by a Masaki Takemoto T-Hollow, then possibly a Nakamura, and another interesting rod being made today (the red one) not bamboo but an octagonal solid carbon rod. Then Asama, Uda (the bamboo alterego of Campanella and excellent value for money), and Kakuhiro. Great stuff.

#7I believe it is direct sales only. At least I am not aware of others selling it.

#11I'm about to order the book. I just want to confirm first that the book is $65.00. or $6,800. yen. Is that correct?
Re: New Japanese Rodmaker book
#12They charged me $68.50 via Paypal on Nov. 10th. Paypal makes money on the conversion.

#17Just received my copy of the book. Haven't had a chance to read much of it, but very nice introduction by Glenn Brackett, lots of good photos and some very interesting Japanese innovations described.

#18Looks like a terrific publication. Like many here, I am a fan of and have great respect for the workmanship which current Japanese rod builders are executing.
Can anyone who has received or seen the book let me know the list of makers who are represented please? I was only able to gather a partial list from previewing the chapters from the link.
Thank you very much Paul for letting us know about the book!

Re: New Japanese Rodmaker book
#20I've always admired the Kagerow rods. Considered buying one about a dozen years ago, but held off as I was in the process of moving. I've regretted that decision ever since. I may have to purchase this book as I don't want to look back a decade from now and kick myself for not doing it.
