Per Brandin's New Book

#1

Post by Stilesville »

I had a sneak peek at Per's new book "A Fly Rod with a Soul" yesterday. Beautifully photographed, well written, and full of wonderful information and insights, the book chronicles the story of E.C. Powell and his innovative rods. This labor of love by one of the most respected rod builders of all time will appeal to anyone with an interest in fine fly rods. Even those who are not aficionados of Powell's rods will be after reading this wonderful book.

Thanks for the heads up and the recommendation. Any idea when it will be published? It sounds like I will want a copy.

I'm excited for it and the preface by Tom Morgan, foreward by Hoagy, and the chapter on modern builders. I don't know much about Powell but it will be interesting to learn about him and his rods (and those tapers), and I'm sure it will push me into a new rabbit hole. Per is a good writer, too. I love reading all the sections on his site.

I emailed Per about timing and he responded that he will email people who have emailed him that they are interested in a copy when he gets them in. He thinks that will be “soon.”

Ditto. He's expecting copies very shortly. Anxiously awaiting!

Per just took possession of the printed copies, and they're now available for purchase on his website: https://www.brandin-splitcane.com/store ... -book.html

In addition to the trade edition, he has a limited and deluxe edition.

I tried to purchase the book through the website this morning but the response was that they are not currently accepting payment. (?) ???

Go to the bottom of the page and click on E.C.Powell book. Much more info there.

The link above does not allow purchase

You have to go here (directions in paragraph) and email Per for an invoice, it seems.

Correct. I have been corresponding with Per today and he let me know that he's not set up for taking payments on his page where that link was. The directions he gives on the site are correct- you need to email him to order.

It's his invoicing platform, easy to use. Just click it and input your credit/debit info.

Just a heads up. Look for the invoice email from Little West Kill Press. Mine was flagged by my spam filters so I missed it at first.

Here's a video discussing various payment platforms from a business perspective. No financial interest, etc., etc.
