Listened to this via Audible recently
I agree completely with positive reviews - Great book with portraits of some real characters and an obsession

This might be off topic just a touch, but Joe Brooks, in his 1950 book Saltwater Fly Fishing, believed that with the tackle of that day, bamboo rods and Zwarg and Vom Hofe reels, etc, the fly caught weight limit on tarpon was 50 pounds. I believe that the current record is a tad over 200 pounds.

I've just finished this book and it is brilliant! Really well written with some very interesting scoop on the characters immersed in the tarpon scene. I couldn't put it down

LOVED it! what a crazy story.
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.

Funny, just watched it last week for the first time in many years. Interesting times on the flats around the Keys...it always felt like McGuane was the only one of that legendary group who was interested in actually fishing for tarpon.
