Greetings from Minneapolis

Post by blackdog »

I’m new to this board and to cane rods, having just bought a 7 1/2 foot Heddon 14 with 1 1/2 ferrules. I’ve got several of the green Heddon 300 series reels, so I plan to use one of those on the rod. I mostly fish Southeast MN, but sometimes get over to Wisconsin or down to Iowa. I tie a lot of my own flies, and have enough materials for several lifetimes. I also fish fiberglass rods, especially a 7 1/2 foot Orvis superfine. I’m looking forward to learning from you folks!

Welcome! I live in Lakeland (right across the border from Hudson, WI) and therefore fish the Kinni, Rush, and all the rivers in between. I tie flies and have been wrapping my own fiberglass rods. You came to the right place!

Welcome to the forum. BTW: You have a wonderful resource in your area. Dave Norling, a maker of bamboo rods, lives in Minneapolis and is a great guy. So is his son, Dave Jr. Both are great gentlemen. :)

I don't know how many rods Dave Sr. still makes, but he is a wonderful man to ask questions and he will never quit learning about bamboo rods.

Welcome. You have some nice places to fish. I used to live in Como Park near the zoo. I used to fish those areas too.

Welcome to the forum. I got a chuckle about the fly tying materials. I have the same problem. Many lifetimes worth of materials, and I never seem to stop adding to them......

Looking forward to your posts.

I actually saw a Dave Sr. last Saturday. He’s a fine man, very generous with his time. He is only building a few rods these days, as fund raisers for TU and other organizations.

Hey Warren, longtime lurker here! Lovin' your Heddon collection you've been acquiring of late, hope to see some more stream pics with your rods in action.

Welcome blackdog! Also, the rod builder, Bill Critchfield, is in the Twin Cities, too.
