#1Not much to say. I'm a retired Coach who enjoys fishing the San Juan River several days a week. I have a Brooks Bamboo rod that is is a Mckenzie DF 7 foot 4 wt and I'm scared of fishing it in this river! I dry fly but use a Winston TMF to fish #22 to 26 when I do.

#2Welcome. Don’t be afraid of fishing bamboo rods - they are more durable than graphite rods and can be repaired, if damaged.

#6Welcome to the forum. I grew up in Aztec, many moons ago and fondly remember fishing the San Juan just after they completed the dam.
Agree with others that you should not be afraid to fish the rod. Lime Creek would be perfect, but would not rule out the San Juan.

#8Welcome from the Taos area. I fish the San Juan with 4 and 5 weight bamboo exclusively. Never a problem and always exciting. Heard a guide in a passing boat one day exclaim excitedly to his client, "That guy was fishing with a cane rod!" At least he noticed.

#9Welcome to the forum. Spent a lot of time on the San Juan some years ago. The Brooks rod is a good one, you won't have any issues fishing it. Bamboo is a lot sturdier than most people think.
