Talented New Bamboo Rod Builder Joins Our Ranks

#1

Post by Dave Dozer »

Hi Everyone,

I would like to introduce a new bamboo rod builder to our wonderful community here on the forum. Olivia Elia is a very talented young women who got into bamboo rod building two years ago. She is now working with me in an apprentice role to fine-tune her rod building skills and knowledge. She just spent a couple of weeks with me in my workshop working on a 7' 9" 4wt rod, an 8' 0" 7 wt rod, and started work on a third rod, final taper yet to be determined. Not only is Olivia a very talented photographer and luthier, she has tremendous skills in the workshop as well. And, she has tremendous drive to take her rod building to a higher level. Let's all give Olivia a warm welcome into our great rod building community.

Welcome, from another person who loves fly fishing, bamboo rods, acoustic guitars and photography, albeit with less talent than you have, no doubt!

Great news. I'd like to stop by this winter to interview both you and her for my new book, which is finally back on the tracks.

In other news, in a few days, my friend and advisor, Royce Stearns is moving to Idaho, the land of big fish.

Hi Joe,

Great to hear that your new book is getting going. It would be fantastic if you're able to swing by the shop here in Sisters. If I'm not out fishing, I'm usually working on rods. And, Olivia will be spending a lot more time in my shop also. It would be great if you can highlight her as a "New Up-And-Coming Bamboo Rod Builder. She is very talented, and its great to see a few young bloods getting into an "old guys" field like bamboo rod building.

Thank you so much for all the positive responses!
I actually just finished my bamboo rod website and thought I would share it with you all : https://www.oliviaelia.com/bamboo-rods-title-page
I also made a short video with shots from my apprenticeship with Dave Dozer! Here's a link to that if any of you are interested : https://youtu.be/OORAB-JZHWI

Let me know what you think (:
