Finally introducing myself
#1Hey Folks,
I figure it's about time to introduce myself because I've been scouring this forum for all kinds of info. I was formerly introduced to bamboo rods in the 90's shortly after arriving in Montana. An outfitter I guided for at the time knew Walton Powell and put me in touch with him. I ended up buying a Companion Series rod from him in 1999.
This Forum has been invaluable. Thanks to all who have posted their knowledge and experience (and opinions) over the years. In time, as I learn, I hope to pull my own weight.

#3Hi Dave! What experience you have. I would recommend the next step for you is to visit us here in Northern England and Scotland. A bit colder at times than you are probably used to and sometimes the fishing is hard, but sometimes the best you can get.
Tight lines!

#4Dave, welcome from Paul in Wyoming. Something you should check out is the bamboo rod gathering in Bozeman, held in September. This year’s gathering was a good time. The Bozeman folks did a great job.

#5Welcome and glad to have you from Texas, Dave.
Maybe we will get to see that Companion set.
What a neat piece.

#6Welcome to the Forum. I lived at Victor, MT from '68 to '77, Fishing was very good in those days. Cheers.

#7Thanks for the replies!
-Fishing the U.K. Would be a dream come true and the cool weather would be quite refreshing after this Texas heat.
-Bamboo fishers gathering in Bozeman sounds fun.
-I’ll upload some pics at some point of my W. Powell companion rods. It’s an 8’3 and 7’3 for a 4,5,6wt.
Thanks guys.

#8Earl, good to from you. That Victor stretch changes every year but I used to fish it a lot. Great skwala and Hecuba hatches through there.

#9Welcome aboard, from Paul in MA.
The Montana, Idaho and Wyoming area are my favorite fishing areas. Beautiful country, I fish there every Sept.
