Here is a different one that mentions fishing tackle. Note also the address change.

Charlie, thanks and dated a little earlier then AJ's reference to J. Hapgood selling fishing tackle (he had it at 1865). The previous guns only advertisement was from an 1855 Maine business directory.

Excellent, Just got off the phone with Jerry, he pointed out there are quite a few Joab Hapgood guns out there, sure enough do a search on Hapgood guns and you can see some of the script on the Guns. Jeff's close ups on the gun have similar script on the initial plate.

Charlie and Royce, good stuff and thanks for adding to this thread about history.

Mike, once in awhile the gnomes timing is good;-)

Jeff

Edit; I will accept subscriptions for one more week then that option will no longer be available, THe whole set will be for sale when finished and it will be a fair bit more than the subscription price.

Update 2/2/2020

The final holder will be 3 ring binders (going out with the third set) with 9 or 10 4 disc pages to hold everything like index pages etc., it also includes a limited edition watercolor print done by me on the interior front cover page. I also figured out the labeling for the discs, I am doing it old school rod maker style with old fashioned ink stamps'

This is a shameless plug for this wonderful effort on Jeff's behalf. I have no financial interest in this but I did want to share with you all what a wonderful resource of rod history that he has put together. Received my binder this week to house the DVD's that Jeff has produced. Jeff's camera work and narration are top notch and the story of rod evolution is simply fascinating. Since his background is rod making and metallurgy he has the vocabulary and passion to literally make history come alive. If you love bamboo rods you will love his efforts on this.

Walt, and George and everyone a Huge thanks for the kind words about this project!!!

I am honored that you would frame my art and hang it!!! Thanks and looking forward to Your review, Getting into the really neat stuff and the clips are taking longer to film as I have paper in the form of Ads and books that are getting filmed alongside of the rods, tying it all together. I think AJ would be proud of what he has caused;-) R.I.P. Steppe Warrior !!! We are doing our best to carry forward your legacy!!!!!

I will post a photo of the print on the wall when I gey it back from the frame shop.
I particularly liked the 3 New Brunswick rods on disc 6. My wife thinks you sound more confident in your narration as compared to the first set.

got a wild hair last night and decided to "wander along the banks of time" in the antique rod listings on the site we must not mention and lo and behold there was a rod that fills a hole in the GTRS :eek not in the greatest shape but a fair example of a rod by Will Cruttenden. She has the 1873 McHarg reel seat patent. YEEHAW!!! one more name off of the Campbell List and it will have an honored home in the GTRS 8-) :wave :wave ;) It grows like an amoeba :eek

So far we have done a good job of staying true to the thread and the GTRS DVD project, might as well stay true to the point of this and not start debating an auction site and discussion of said site, that is a joke amongst some here on the forum and RMorrison is not one of them, he is on the opposite side as one of my ax grinders. Please stay focused on the GTRS DVD thread and project

Thanks
