Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#21Jeff,
I, unfortunately, got caught up in the facebook purge because I violated community standards, changed email provider and could not be reached at my old email and no cell phone did not meet their standards or they think I am an evil Russian, maybe one of my finest moments ;-). I know this is a serious commitment sight unseen but when done it will be AJ's book in HD. And a look at rods like no other as Mark and others will attest to.
And Thanks Mark, too much fun and well worth doing for my friends and subscribers.
Jeff
And if it goes right, try this link after 9:00 tonight 12/21/194
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2fNQLdKbWg
The video is up and available through the link above, enjoy. and just think that is one of almost 200 when finished, This epic is being brought to you by Cecil B Da Gnome

Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#22I received the first 2 disks yesterday and watched the first last night. Great stuff. Will the captions/description of each rod be available in a booklet? They were hard to read on the screen.

#23Walt,
Many thanks
I did intend for these to be watched on the big screen and not on a small computer monitor. Did you watch it on a big screen HD TV??

#25Found a copy of "Rod Crafting" under the tree.
Walt
Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#26Walt it has a lot of the storyboards in it!! and the GTRS has alot that is not in Rod Crafting
Merry Christmas a bit belated
And for Mr. Richard Kuklis the early victorian rod that you donated to the GTRS, I have positively identified the rod as a Eugene Bartlett #6 trout rod circa 1878-1900, Thanks to Mr, Burton AKA Dustnstuff for the copy of the 1878 Bartlett catalog which shows who made that rod and a fair time frame for it.

#28I received my DVD's and started watching them immediately. Jeff, this is outstanding work. As you know I have seen the GTRS three times and could see it another 300, but your narration on the DVD's adds priceless context. Thanks!

Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#31Jeff, thanks for doing this. I go through your Rod Crafting book more than I want to admit, these are like having a private showing of the GTRS.
Hope your dad is well.

#32Mike,
Thanks and I am glad you are enjoying them. Dad's eyesight is failing and so he requires more help now so I spend a lot of time with him other than that he is hanging in there pretty well.
Thanks again
from your gnome
Jeff
WAlt, I will do one disc that is nothing but story boards to go with the index and the Bibliography and footnotes DVD

Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#34I just finished watching disc 2. As you know Jeff, I have seen the GTRS twice, once in the Catskills and again at Somerset. I got nothing like the level of information from seeing the exhibit as I am from the detailed explanations on the discs. I now anxiously await the discs on twentieth century rods, but admit to finding the nineteenth century information enlightening. You are doing important work with this.

#38Hey Jeff, just working through 3 & 4 (thanks for the work), have you discussed Hapgood with Jerry G? Knowing JG's interest in the gunsmiths, I was wondering if he had a contact on the Boston gunsmiths that made tackle.
Re: "Wading Along the banks of time, Stick in hand" DVD
#39Royce,
Looking forward to talking with Jerry G. about that rod after he has a chance to watch the video, in the next day or two for sure!!
Jeff
The add that A.J. had in "Classic & Antique Fly Fishing tackle" for Mr.Hapgood is a bit of a clue with the J and H on the rod appearing to be in the same font/style as in the add, yep I know it is a stretch but a place to start from for sure. old fishing rods with potential for being very historically important made by gunsmiths. Good stuff!! Page #241 to see that add for the Boston Gunmaker and dealer of Fishing tackle

#40Since I'm the current custodian of AJ's notebook here's the image that AJ used on page 241, that Jeff is referencing.
