An old, well-used, classic 346 8-1/2' HDH after a morning workout on a cutthroat lake in the Cascades. Love that flamed cane.Image

I no longer own this rod but it has found a good home here on the forum with one of our members. I thought it would be appreciated in this thread.

The elusive, and gorgeous, SB 8 footer. That may be the Holy Grail SB.

My South Bend 7 1/2 footers.
Top is a 29, 2/2. Original except for reel seat. A great 7 weight.
Middle is a 290, 2/2. All original. One of my go to rods.
Bottom is a 291, 4/1. All original. Nice rod but it doesn't get fished much.

This is the 8 1/2, #12 I just received. Casts great but could use a few more guides. Anyone know what the red thread might be? Pretty bright.

Andre, I've wondered the same about the thread? Has to be red silk, but its more the color preserver that's been used that allows it to appear this way. Lacquer maybe? I've seen this on a couple of rods and the wraps have a kind of antique look to them.

The rod has been rewrapped in the past, so it can be hard to determine the exact shade of thread. If I were going to add a few guides, I think I'd rewrap the whole thing.

This is my South Bend Model 47. 8.5 with one tip and 9' with the other tip. A very nice SB rod.

Andre, I took a look at the model 12 that I own last night whoever re-wrapped your rod did a decent job they're pretty close in appearance.

Actually the pictures look better than reality but not bad. This is one nice casting rod with both 5 and 6 peach DT. Very impressed.

Beautiful rod Munsey. Did you restore it and how did you save that label? Nice.
