#644I'm loving that juniper insert Piscator! The choice of you wrap colors is spot on. I tuned down a (single) hunk of Japanese Yew given to me that is just lovely, and about the same color. Wish I could find more of it.
Nice looking rod there!

Great looking rod. Sounds like a fine taper. Hope to see it in Townsend.

#647Thanks Vern,
Yep - that's where the Brookie part of the name will come in.

#648Cannot wait to finish out this blank. It's a specialty rod that I just finished the blank for. A 6'8" 6wt., the taper is a strong parabolic designed for throwing poppers and small streamers.
Now for the decisions, screwlock or cap and ring? Thread colors (lighter or darker)? Grip shape (beefier grip for throwing bigger flies or thinner for aesthetics)?

Re: MADE a new rod lately?
#651Euro-Nymphing Bamboo Fly Rod - I learned Euro-Nymphing (Polish, Czech, French, and Spanish) techniques several years ago from a member of the US Fly Fishing Team. Since then, I've been working with several different tapers for light line weight, longer length bamboo rods with slower actions and soft tips required for these sub-surface techniques. But, I've also wanted these rods to cast dry flies well on those occasions when you're on the stream planning for a day of nymphing but a good hatch happens to come off and you need to switch over to a good dry line to cast small dry flies and emergers. After numerous taper modifications, I think I've come up with the rods I've been searching for. This is a slow action 9' 0", 3 piece, 3 wt bamboo fly rod that has amazing sensitivity in the tip to detect very subtle takes while nymphing, but also does well with more traditional dry fly techniques. I would be curious to hear from any of you who have also tried to design good Euro-Nymphing fly rods...what were the most interesting challenges???

#652Can't say that I have played around with any tapers for Euro nymphing, but the rod looks very nice.

#653A 9' 3pc 3wt that'll sub as a dry fly rod too?
Whoaa...a whole 'nuther realm that sounds intriguing!! Wish I could just have a cast, I really do. Talk about a wand but I'll bet it would surprise a guy. And it looks like you did a superb job on her Dave.
Jeremy.

#654Munsey, beautiful Hunt wraps and varnish, really sleek, and gorgeous rendition of that Heddon as well. Masterful!!!!! By the way has anyone heard from Alex Vardanis. Both Caddisman and myself have tried to get a hold of him to no avail. Thanks, Jed

#655This is the first rod out of the shop since last summer’s health scare. It’s really nice to see this one on the way to Birmingham. Orders are steady and I should soon be turning out a rod every 10-12 days. I made one of these for myself and can’t wait to get it on the water soon.

Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.
