Photos of "Classic" Fly Fishing Gear

The word "Classic" is defined as: "judged over a period of time to be of the highest quality and outstanding of its kind". I would guess that everyone who visits this great forum would have their own view of what is "Classic" Fly Fishing Gear. I'm very interested in seeing photos of what other people consider "Classic". I'll start with a photo of an Orvis Rocky Mountain rod, an Orvis CFO III reel, and an old Aussie fishing hat:

Note: Since I'm not up on all "Classic" Fly Fishing Gear it would be "nice" if the photos have a small description included :pipe

Those are some "sweet" looking bonnets ... guess I should have called this thread "Classic" hats & fly fishing gear:

Aussie hat, Chapman bag, Hardy LRH reel, and Orvis Banty rod.

The finest original-condition rod built by Paul H. Young that I have handled is a rare 8'6" 5-weight "modified parabolic" Nymph Rod, dated March 1950 and made for Stanley L. Eldert of Schnectady, New York. It casts exceptionally well, and shows the highest level of finish work that Young was capable of achieving. A "satisfied-customer" letter from Eldert describing this rod was printed by Paul H. Young in his 1951 tackle catalog, shown in the final photo of this sequence.

Just thought i'd follow your lead. I'am ready to get back to tackle.
Quash net, i am always amazed at the PHY rods you've acquired, and grateful for the chance to at least view them, its always a real Treat! Some day.... maybe...???

T&T 7' 6" 4wt Paradigm from both Thomas' era with a Ted Godfrey BiMetal 233. Two Wheatley boxes in a Goertzen Bag – IMHO an instant classic – based on an early creel with the chest strap found in an old Sears catalog.

hmmm. will need to get a shot of the Richardson Chest Box I fish with.

..might be a bit provocative to post a 'plastic' rod, but that's still a classic combo for (light) pike fishing for me.

I love Show and Tell!

Thanks for the great photos so far, interesting to see that Orvis has a strong showing, and I'm certainly going to add to that :) .

Classics to me, and dare I say blue-collar, hopefully few would disagree.

Love this thread! I recently picked up a copy of Classic Fishing Lures and Tackle by Eric Lowell Sorenson. Some great photos in the book but I have to say that the ones in this thread are right up there with them!
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

Just a detail, 7 1/2' Lyon & Coulson-Heddon 17. Great day with a #14 Wooly Bugger on an Eastern Sierra California stream. I like how the fly looks in peacock and grizz, tied on the Mustad 9674, great old straight-eye streamer hook with the long point. I have caught a lot of trout with it.

Related to this very cool thread, I see many of the hats pictured wearing pin/badges, etc. Maybe everyone else knows what they are, but I sure don't, and I'd be interested if the owners care to share.

Reviving an older thread with an older reel. Not entirely sure that 80's constitutes 'classic'? ;)

I was taking photos of an old plane that I was researching the other day and decided to spend a little effort with my Prince 5/6 reel at the same time. I don't think these were all that popular in the marketplace, but it is my favorite Hardy reel.
