#1201Yikes - That Bull looked much bigger! Great Steelhead pic as well. I try to be kind to the fish as well. I do use a net and try to keep them in the water while removing the fly. It doesn't always work that way but I make the effort and like them to swim away strong.

#1204Here is a sweet little 7' 3 wt. bamboo rod made for me by Ed Pochinski of Black River Fly Shop.
And here is its first catch made today.
And for you geology nerds, here are some uplifted layered deposits.

#1207The Black Stone Fly hatch with a Jim Downes 7612. A sweet little 7-1/2' 5wt. The tag is marked 4, but I liked it with a 5wt.
The perfect rod for the small to mediumish sized mountain streams here in the Mid-Atlantic.
Cheers to the new season!!

#1210That first brown in post 1207 is just a stunner. More vivid than most pre spawn browns.

#1212Start of Autumn Down Under. Much of the east coast of Australia is inundated with "once in a 100 year" floods and some maniac is threatening to nuke the world so going fishing seemed a very logical choice. Caught some cute brownies in the nine to thirteen inch range on a 7' 5" cane rod, lunched on blackberries as I made my way upstream and felt satisfyingly exhausted when I got back to the car. Good therapy.

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#1213First time out this year, to North Meadow Lake where last year I caught a pan fish Grand Slam - bluegills and bass, crappies and cats. No such luck this time; a couple of crappies is all I could muster, and none worthy of a pic. RL Winston 7-1/2' 4wt...
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)
