Yikes - That Bull looked much bigger! Great Steelhead pic as well. I try to be kind to the fish as well. I do use a net and try to keep them in the water while removing the fly. It doesn't always work that way but I make the effort and like them to swim away strong.

I bought this 9 1/2-foot Cross Forsyth Tournament rod from a board member. This rod, almost a century old, was primarily designed for tournament casting, but its heft and power struck me as worth trying out on steelhead.

Here is a sweet little 7' 3 wt. bamboo rod made for me by Ed Pochinski of Black River Fly Shop.

And here is its first catch made today.

And for you geology nerds, here are some uplifted layered deposits.

Sweet looking set up!

Perfect for that stream. See any little black stone flies?

I'm be fishing my brand new Alan Kube made 8'3" 2/2 5wt. Quad. Well actually I fished it on Thursday and it's amazing. Sweet, easy casting accurate as all get out. It shines in every way. Complete with a mammoth ivory ferrule plug.

The Black Stone Fly hatch with a Jim Downes 7612. A sweet little 7-1/2' 5wt. The tag is marked 4, but I liked it with a 5wt.
The perfect rod for the small to mediumish sized mountain streams here in the Mid-Atlantic.

That first brown in post 1207 is just a stunner. More vivid than most pre spawn browns.

Start of Autumn Down Under. Much of the east coast of Australia is inundated with "once in a 100 year" floods and some maniac is threatening to nuke the world so going fishing seemed a very logical choice. Caught some cute brownies in the nine to thirteen inch range on a 7' 5" cane rod, lunched on blackberries as I made my way upstream and felt satisfyingly exhausted when I got back to the car. Good therapy.

First time out this year, to North Meadow Lake where last year I caught a pan fish Grand Slam - bluegills and bass, crappies and cats. No such luck this time; a couple of crappies is all I could muster, and none worthy of a pic. RL Winston 7-1/2' 4wt...

Folks....Every year I get my Howells/Hartzell One Piecer (7'1" 5-6wt) out for about a month just to get it some 'exercise'. March is crappie time and I was out today with them in mind BUT my first cast yielded this monster. I am sure Gary would be smiling.
