7’9” 5 wt Maurer Old Philosopher XD with same reel.
Weighted mud bug #8 fly of the week. Not pretty fishing, but the better browns like them.

#2007That was in California last week. A last-resort fly after a tough day.

Re: What are you fishing this week?
#2011Summers 735, Hardy JLH Ultralite reel and Barrio "Smallstream" WF5 line. The rod was made in 1998. I have owned the reel much longer than the rod but I suspect that they were both made about the same time.
Re: What are you fishing this week?
#2013Thank you! Cod Beck is a fine little mixed trout and grayling river. Downstream there are chub and dace, both those species are also fun to catch on a fly. It can be quite constricted in places (below is a summertime picture) so a rod which is good at roll-casting (like the Summers 735) is helpful.

#2016I was up in Northern Wisconsin this weekend. Conditions were much different than back home - 6 inches of snow on the ground with a lot of melting, making for cold water. Off to the headwaters then! Midges were hatching like crazy in the warm sun and the brookies were busy chasing them down. It made for some great fishing. The Orvis 7/3 was perfect for this!

#2018d.a., beautiful specs! Hoping to head back home to my boyhood brookie waters on Saturday, will be bringing the PJ Julius Midge and 7'0" Hoffhines in case I encounter some dry fly action.driftless angler wrote: ↑04/08/24 10:15I was up in Northern Wisconsin this weekend. #2019Good luck Gerard! Send me a report, please. I have to image the snow is all gone and hopefully the rivers are back down. Should be beautiful weather!

#2020RL Winston Brackett-era 7'6" 4wt and a few bass
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)
