Roll Stamp

#1

Post by Random Casts »

Hi All,

Cane anyone tell me when the roll stamp changed from:

E.F. Payne
Rod
E.F. Payne Rod Co
Makers

Centrered in the cartouche to

Payne
Registered****

Centered in the cartouche.

Would that be when Frank Oram joined Jim Payne?

Thank you for any info,
Richard

Banjo,

I poured over 8. The only references I could see were one that stated Jim Payne used the E. F. Payne name for fifty years after his father’s death. The other reference was that Frank Oram registered the ‘Payne’ in coutouche I believe in 1925. ‘Sold by’ and ‘built for’ ran throughout Payne’s history.
Unless I’m Reading this incorrectly. Perhaps Hoagy can chime in?

Best,
Richard

The made for was used for A&F rods and others like Clapp & Treat, von Lergke and Detmolt etc. the sold by came after 3M took ownership of Payne, you are probably spot on about Frank Oram though he passed away early and the Vice President seat taken over by his wife Helen.

Thank you Banjo.

To summarize, the roll stamp read E.F. Payne etc. in the cartouche until about 1925 thereafter it read just Payne centered in the cartouche?
Does that sound about right?

Cheers,
Richard
