I was poking around some of my old makers catalogues and I came across these.

This list and the catalogue came to me June of 1978. As you can see the prices were $600.00 for a two piece rod and $650,00 for a three piece rod.

Prior to the purchase of Payne by Johnson’s Wax, in the previous year a two piece rod sold for $575.00.

Just saw this old post. $650 in 1978 is the equivalent of $3098 in today’s dollars. Scrolling through dealer catalogs and depending on the model, a “like new” in original condition (if you can find one) might go for a little more and a beautifully refinished one may go for a little less. Seems as though Payne’s are holding their own.
