He led by example and was simply a very good man. Qualities in short supply these days. He, as many have said, will be sorely missed.

There is not much more that already has been said to add. Every Spring, Sante's highlight was a fixture at Eldredge Expo appraising cane, making new friends and meeting his old friends. He sure enjoyed time with his many friends. RIP = Richie

Hey there

I would echo that there is not much I can add that has not already be offered in print or in prayers.
I hold his family in my heart, and leave this last thought....

He did not Leave, He is not gone.
He looks upon us still.
He walks among the valleys now
He strides upon the Mountains
and hills
His smile is in the summer sky,
His grace is in the breeze.
His memory whisper in the grass.
His calm is in the trees.
His light is in the winter snow.
His tears are in the rain.
His merriment runs in the streams and brooks
His laughter in the lane.
His gentleness is in the flowers,
His sigh in the autumn leaves.
He did not leave, He is not gone.
‘Tis only we that grieve.

Peace and fair winds, and flowing streams good sir.....

Ben

I am stunned and saddened to read this. Sante was one of my first contacts in the bamboo world some 15 years ago, and I was thrilled to meet him and talk to him occasionally at shows -- sadly, I never got to fish with him. He was kind and generous, and leaves us a remarkable legacy. Thank you and tight lines, Banjo.

May he Rest In Peace. Prayers sent for his family and loved ones. I never met the man, but have been enjoying and learning from his knowledge on this board for over 15 years. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Sante

David and I are so sad to hear this news.

We'll miss his joy, his friendship, and his knowledge. He led much of Maine into a revival of interest in classic cane. Forty rods generously offered at SuperBoo wasn't unusual for Sante, and the stories the night before...♥️

Ahh Sante at SuperBoo. I've lost count of the times he thrust a rod in my hand "Go cast this". Always a "wow" moment, then you look down, take a minute to realize what you're holding. "Where is he? I have to give this back before I break it". Every one he forced on me was a revelation. But I got him back the year I brought out my rod from Jeff Hatton.

I had brief encounters with him at the Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop Expo's. He was always a gentleman. Always patient. Always happy to answer questions. The best...

I never met Mr. Guillani, but sure had a lot of respect for him and was grateful to have followed him here. Perhaps our paths will cross on some small creek or river in the future. My thoughts go out to his family and of course his friends here on the forum.

Tight lines Banjo,

My sincere condolences to Sante’s family, and dear friends. I too had the good fortune to first cross paths with the “Canefather” a decade plus ago during one of his bamboo rod gatherings at a mountain retreat in the Catskill Mountains & the birth place of fly fishing in America. As so many have stated… a true gentlemen and ambassador of our hobby, sport & affliction for the sweet reed… all things bamboo.

Rest in Peace Sante, and…

”May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
