What Are You Tying This Week
#1It is snowing today in Colorado and the football games on television are too boring to watch. Ergo, to the vise for fly tying session. There is a thread that concerns what are you fishing this week but have not seen one concerning tying. I am new to fishing soft hackles so I figured I would start at the foundation which to me would be the fly itself. So, I will begin with trying to imitate some soft hackle flies that were given to me by Bill Blackburn to fish on the Firehole this fall.
What are you tying this week?

#4Kind of a Puglisi Mantis Shrimp with a little dash of Spawning Shrimp thrown in for good measure. I'll get to fish them on Sunday.

#6Now that my son is living in the west I have him to tie for in addition to my wife, daughter and son-in-law. I just finished a batch of stonefly nymphs. Time to start on the dries. Parachute Adams, Pale Morning Duns, Green Drakes and Quill Gordon tied parachute style. I usually buy terrestrials but may give them a try this winter.

#7I'll be tying some Christmas deceivers for a fly swap. They will be green red and white.

#9Have been tying big pink and chartreuse chum salmon flies. My first fall in Washington and I keep hearing they will start to run any day now.

#13From left to right, Partridge & Lemon, Partridge & Orange, Partridge & Olive.
I like to wrap the body smooth going from front to back, then spin the thread and bring it forward as a rib. Also add a peacock thorax and use the darkest partridge feathers for the hackle.
Still working to improve my photography skills!
Tight Lines- Ken

#16Starting a couple (maybe 3) sets of Cains River Streamers to frame up for fundraisers. Been a lot of fun figuring out -with the help of several good guys, including John McCain at FeathersMC and Bryant Freeman up in New Brunswick - how to dye some saddles French Blue. Was fun ordering up appropriate dyes, etc. Already had appropriate hooks, thank heavens.

#18I just finished this mess of Usuals, Comparaduns, and Compara Spinners for a friend. I've lost track of how many there are, but it's a bunch more than the picture looks like. The #16s and #18s are buried by the #12s and #14s. I'm glad to be done for now, but will start another project after taking a break.
