What Are You Tying This Week

A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Great looking flymph, thanks for sharing. I have used flymphs quite frequently as well here in middle TN.
Curious to learn what material you are using for tail? I have historically used ostrich herl.

Thanks

This week I have tied the following:

25 Pheasant Tail Hoft Hackles
25 Pat's Rubber Leged Stonefly Nymphs
50 Parachute Flies in olive, tan and gray

My daughter just purchased an Air B&B in Montana. Each booking will include a complimentary dozen flies. Guess who was volunteered to tie the flies?

Flytire, I'm diggin' that last fly in your lineup. Lov'em'all but that last one is just calling me to take it to the vise, put in my panfish and my trout boxes and set some up for a swap in the future. Is it a named fly or just use your pattern and go from there. I have a lot of swords I haven't used in awhile but just can't quite figure the body out. I'd cheat with chenille but I can't help thinking it's some kind of nicely done dubbing.

BDNGRD, I have recently done a run of Caddis with Wally Wings in the spent position. I tied a dozen for a swap and they start to get easier as you go along. Done a lot of Wally Wings upright like that but found it a little trickier to get the laid down version.

And don't know if you've ever seen this hack before but it does make the wings a lot easier to handle.

Thanks, bassman, I tried that after hack seeing a youtube video and these were my first attempts. They are fun to learn and the spent caddis idea seem like a perfect use for a wally wing! Nice tie!

Flatwings have been on the menu this week. After a number of mediocre results I tied a few that I'm happy with. I've never really fished with them but I'm looking forward to throwing them at stripers next fall.
