I have a Walt Carpenter midge rod. It is 6.75’ long. The reel seat is mortised and rather short. I’ve tried am Orvis mid-arbor reel and a Uniqua with short, slim feet. Neither fits; the mortised section is too short. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive reel that could fit the rod. I don’t want to file the feet of the Uniqua.

get that file out and get to work. i've shortened the feet of a system 2 4/5L and a 1492 medalist to fit non-standard reel seats. you can get the scientific angler reels, disc or clicker from the auction site very cheaply. the 1492's are nice little clickers and about $50-$60 NIB, or less used. besides, it'll piss off the poobahs to see a medalist on a carpenter.

Perhaps a Hardy Flyweight or Featherweight made in England from the Lightweight series would fit. I'm not sure what you consider inexpensive but these reels are around $200-$300.
