Fanwing Variations

A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Fanwing Variations

#1

Post by AKSalmo57 »

Like everyone else keep calm and tie flies. So I did some variations of the Fanwing Royal Coachman. A couple with barred wood tail, a couple with a white band, and a couple of traditional ties. Fun flies to tie. I going to try some other patterns in this style. These will be great Grayling flies to fish. Got to lone the Dette book and Mike Valla's Dry Fly Book and Catskill book for inspiration.

I ran across some unusual feather markings while going through a bag and thought they'd make a great fanwing, something I have only tied a couple of.
