Farlow's Patent lever Reels

#1

Post by Owenduff »

This is my first post to this forum, so hello everybody.
I recently bought a few reels at auction, and although only one of them was supposed to be named/stamped ( Wallace & Kerr ) in fact several of them were by reputable makers, including a 4" Farlow's Patent lever reel #1055. It's in very good but neglected condition, body of aluminium, and brass spool.
My question is: can anyone tell me what sort of finish would the aluminium have had originally? It doesn't look like a lead finish, as it currently has that dusty limey surface that you see on old polished alu.
Could it have been a polished surface originaly?
