Jim, I'd say the black under glass is a really nice reflective touch.
mirrors will provide hours of trying to control your light sources ;)

For the rod it provides a interesting perspective. I kinda like it and never would have thought to try it.

Now I am dying to see your rod collection!

Wow! I missed this when it was originally posted.

Excellent photography!

First, those look like some amazing rods, reels, and lures. Would love to see more of your collection.

Maybe your first time with a reflective surface but definitely not your first time setting up a shot. Did you try a flash of any sort or just steady light?

Finally got around to trying a mirror. I chose the Pettengill reel for this shot based on the aesthetics of the spool arbor, something you otherwise wouldn't really see with a standard "head-on" photo. I'm still leaning towards the black background looking best, but I need to try other reel/rod combos before I decide. I also wanted to go with nickel silver on hard rubber, thinking the "silver" mirror would show this best. Please tell me what you think, I would appreciate the feedback.

I used steady light for all these photos.

Like others, I am hanging on for another update.

Great pictures Brian.

The Fowler above is a real looker - but not so durable from what I read... surprised its own reflection didn't scare it into pieces.
