Help with Shakespeare Wonderod Handle

I have a very nice Shakespeare Wonderod No. 1579 M made in 1958 that needs a casting-rod handle. The metal ferrule at the butt end is hex-shaped and is 1/2 inch from side to side. I'm having a heck of a time finding a handle that will fit. Hoping that someone here has some experience with this and can point me in the right direction. I've even considered grinding down the hex and fitting the rod to a handle that accepts round butt ferrules. Thanks.
