This post deserves the highest honors.

Well done my good friend.

What a masterpiece.
I concur with Brian’s remarks.

NewUtahCaneAngler,

Your ideological reel groupings , photos layout, organization of rod and reels, time & effort , and adherence to that theme over time must be commended!

Bravissimo !

Thanks guys! I only wish that I had that orange and black Philbrook and Payne (or clone) to display on my current rods 7’ and under.

Cheers,
Joe

I really like the Martin MG-3 and the Pfluger 1492 for my rods under 7'. These 2 balance my rod right at the front of the grip.

I just wish that the 1592 was accessible!

Here is a 1492 on an Orvis Seven-Four

And on an Orvis Madison Seven-Three with the MCL reel seat

And on an Orvis 7' 3 3/8 oz Battenkill

And here is a 3" J.W. Young Pridex on an Orvis Seven-Four

For those of us that can not afford $300-$400 reels , The Bronsons, Kalamazoos and South Bends are perfect for 40s and 50s bamboo! And you don't have to worry about damaging the museum piece! Cheers,Chet

Here is an Orvis Special Seven Four wearing:

Hardy Golden Featherweight
I have to thank you for this. What a wonderful collection and photography, as someone who already has a keen interest and collection of CFO's, and who is starting down the bamboo route with a bias towards Orvis I really enjoyed this post

That brown JLH sure is a handsome combo.
Your series is great! <edits> I think you could sell posters or glass prints of them. I would like one on glass for our powder room. Brilliant to show the Medved Rod. Please keep em coming.

Striking handle you might say...

anyone know of a older reel,
skeleton, or not,
that would be lighter than a Pflueger Progress 60?

i have a short (5'3") solid-wood rod,
with 1/2 of a 444 Classic DT3,
on a Progress 60.

Aesthetically, it's *perfect*,
but the reel is a bit heavy for this rod,
(my opinion)

There are lots of modern (post-War) lightweight/small reels that would balance well,
But I'm looking for something from an "older era".

A Meisselbach Featherlight 250 has a patent date of Dec. 2, 1904 stamped into the foot. It measures 3/4" wd. x 1 7/8" dia. and weighs 2.6 oz. loaded up with an Orvis DT1F line -- the perfect companion to my Kusse Baby Catskill rod. A Pflueger Progress Bulldog 60 weighs 3.8 oz. empty.

Continuing this post with several reels on a newly acquired Heddon #14 Thorobred 7' 2-piece Featherweight weighing 3.5 oz. I like the rod the best with the Hardy Featherweight - isn't it fitting that these look and balance nicely together!

I like the Featherweight on your #14 as well out of that group pictured and can seemingly feel it in hand. However, I also have an early leaded double pawled birdcage 1392 that I bet would have probably competed for an original ride on that seat and a tad lighter than the 1492.

I have been using a Hardy Ultraclick on my 6'4", 3 weight. Rod, reel line and backing together are less than 5 ounces.

You’re overthinking this.

Put the reel on the rod. Pick it up and cast.

Does it feel right??
