Three of a kind - and no two alike.

Second-generation Orvis/Young Battenkills--my favorite reels. The unidentified one appears to have been repainted with a slightly sparklier finish, but I'm wondering if anyone knows the story behind and/or the dates of the two different scripts. I think the smaller font looks better on this size reel

Here are 3 Uniqua reels with the mid-century latch (rivet and screw examples). The two 2 7/8" models are enameled and have the check adjustment while the 3 1/8" is a leaded version without the check adjustment. The 2 7/8" with the screws is a rare Uniqua with the maker's mark (no, not the whiskey!) of "JRJ". I'm on the lookout for a 2 5/8" model with the same latch. A leaded version would be great!

Here is a brace of Allcocks “American Pattern” stop latch reels in the two offered finishes. The nickel plated version could be purchased for an additional 25 cents.

Both reels have the 1878-1883 Abbey & Imbrie stamp.

Gorgeous, Bill. It is sad that 99% of the reels made today can’t even come close.

Here are a pair of "golden" JLH Ultralite reels circa 1993. A size 5 and a size 6. I've also seen the golden version with a dark drag adjustment knob, but prefer the slightly bronze version as on these two.

The Hardy JLH Ultralite came on the market 1993, two years later, in 1995 came the JLH disc, But the Hardy JLH Golden Ultralite first came on the market in the year 2000 and left again in 2004. Very good looking fly reels but not so many around.

Thank you for that clarification; I was going stictly by the date on the instruction sheets. April, 1995 must have been the last update to those instructions. These reels don't come cheap, but they can be had for much less than the Sage 500 series, which IMHO are not in the same league due to the much simpler drag adjust.

Cheers,
Joe

Let me present three "sisters" Hardy Silex no. 1 4” from around 1908. They have three diffrent fathers, Hardy reel maker C, D and W. The model Hardy Silex no. 1 was replaced by the more easy to make Hardy Silex no. 2 in 1910/11. Enjoy!
